The Coronavirus Post

As I watched dozens of “how we’re handling COVID-19” emails and posts from everyone from the governor to the local car dealership continue to roll in, it occurred to me that maybe I should write one for the Service Course. Then I put it off for a few weeks, because the world clearly has bigger concerns. Anyway…

We’re fine.

The Service Course is a small business. Very small. Right now, that’s an asset. Costs are low. There is no public exposure inherent in our work, no storefront to close, except when we choose to roll out the tent to see you all face-to-face at great events like DCCX and Trek CX Cup. (I hope we’ll be able to do that again, soon.)

Everyone who works at the Service Course either is me or lives with me, and we’ve all been socially distanced for weeks now. (Distanced from other people, I mean. We are profoundly not distanced from each other right now.) So far, everyone is well, and we’re thankful for that.

I have wash kit inventory on hand, so I have some time before supply disruptions affect my ability to deliver the bike washing goods. And let’s face it, there’s not much demand right now, anyway. That’s OK.

I’m fortunate that—right now—the Service Course is not my primary job/income or the source of my family’s medical insurance. If there are ways you’re able to support small businesses that are people’s primary means of support, please do.

If you would like to order anything on the site, we are shipping orders. We wash our hands a lot, including before and after handling product. (Have you seen this video? It’s great.) Shipments are picked up at our doorstep by USPS. You can view the USPS coronavirus FAQ here.

I hope that you’re all well, that you’re managing the stress of this crisis, that you are finding the help you need if you aren’t, and that you’re doing your best to protect your community, your family, and yourself. Someday, this will be over. I hope we’ll come out of it with a new appreciation for simple things like bike rides with friends, as well as a fierce, unrelenting drive to fix the problems in this country.

Best wishes to you all. Stay home. Wash your hands.
